Hardly a 20 minutes drive from the west of Sydney, the scenic track of Rosehill Gardens is home to the Sydney Turf Club, and hosts the spring and autumn carnival. The grass surface runs clockwise and has sweeping turns with a 2048-metre circumference and 408-metre straight.
With a couple of cinder tracks, one sand track and 4 training tracks, the venue also features a grand pavilion, spectacular grandstand and a spacious seating deck. The three-tier stands are equipped with betting facilities, corporate boxes and restaurants.
The premier racing event held every year at Rosehill Gardens is the Golden Slipper Stakes, a race for 2-year old horses worth an amount of $3.5 million. Other important events include the autumn racing carnival, George Ryder Stakes, Coolmore Classic and Rosehill Guineas.
Warwick Farm Racecourse
Located at a distance of about 30 km from the capital, the Warwick Farm Racecourse is a metropolitan race track, which hosts 15 race meets annually, including the spring and autumn carnivals. The first ever horse race at this venue took place in 1925, after AJC purchased it in 1922. With a 1937-metre circumference and 326-metre straight, the racetrack is considered to be a tight one with sharp turns, where front runners tend to perform well. The ground also features a couple of grass training tracks and one sand track. The venue is also host to the NSW Polo games, but races are predominantly held in spring and autumn carnival seasons.
Canterbury Park Racecourse
Home to the popularly rising concept of night racing, the Canterbury Park Racecourse is a major midweek racing venue in Sydney. Maintained by the Sydney Turf Club, the track is located towards the southwest of Sydney, and in spite of being closest to the central business district, there are no racing carnivals held at this venue. Only midweek racing events are conducted at this clockwise track which is comparatively small with a 1567-metre circumference and 308-metre straight. With loads of handicaps ranging between 1000 and 1900 metres, a total of 7 races take place during each midweek event on Wednesday. There are different subcategories including set weights, colds and geldings, 3 year old and Maidens. Gosford Racecourse
With plenty of race meets scheduled throughout the calendar year, the Gosford Racecourse is an exceptional racing facility with an innovative race track. The premier event at this venue is its own Spring Racing Carnival from October to November. The track runs clockwise with a distinctive layout featuring 1710-metre circumference with tight bends and 250-metre straight. Overlooking the saddling enclosure is the JH Little Members Stand, where spectators can gather together to experience the race. It consists of an enclosed upper level and Riverdale Bar facilities at the lower level.
The most notable event of the Spring Carnival is the Gosford Gold Cup woeth $150,000, while the other major one include Raine & Horne Gosford Belle of the Turf Stakes.
Newcastle Racecourse
Set beautifully on the magnificent Hunter Coast, the Newcastle Racecourse, which is also known as the Broadmeadow Racecourse is home to the Newcastle Jockey Club. With evenly rounded turns along the entire path, the 2070-metre circumference and 380-metre straight track runs clockwise with a slight ascend from the starting turn to the winning spot. With the Grose Valley and the Blue Mountains in the background, it’s also an ideal venue for weddings, meetings and conferences. The premier event here is the Hawkesbury Gold Cup Ladies Day, and is considered to be an important day at this venue.
